The UK bank said the sale was part of its "simplification" strategy and follows the sale of its life insurance business in Singapore to Allianz; Blackstone described the deal as "the largest home loan portfolio transaction globally".

Following a strategic review, HSBC Group has agreed to sell its portfolio of Australian home loans and personal loans to Virgo BidCo, an entity wholly owned by funds managed by affiliates of US investement giant Blackstone.
