Unless you’re one of the few who don’t have social media, you probably noticed that your Facebook, Facebook Messenger and Instagram apps weren’t working on the morning of June 12. Evidently, Meta is experiencing a widespread outage, and businesses, influencers and other users wondered when the apps would be back up.
At the time of publication, Meta has yet to publicly confirm the outage and provide an update on its restoration process.
This isn’t the first time that Meta has run into a sudden system-wide failure. One of the most notable incidents occurred in 2024, when not only Instagram and Facebook went down, but also WhatsApp.

Meta has yet to provide any explanation for Facebook’s shutdown. It’s unclear what’s happening with the social media platform.

As previously noted, Meta has not acknowledged its platforms’ problems, including Instagram’s system-wide shutdown. So, it’s unclear why the popular platform has an error loading.

According to countless users, Facebook Messenger is also experiencing issues loading for users.

As of 11:00 a.m. ET / 8:00 a.m. PT, it’s still unclear when Facebook and Instagram will be restored. The problem has persisted throughout the morning, and it appears that users across the world have reported the dilemma.
