Sunscreen or a poncho? Disney launches new app to give guests accurate weather forecasts across these 5 resorts

Disney has launched a new app to give guests accurate weather forecasts across five of its resorts.

Disney and AccuWeather announced the new app on Thursday. The entertainment firm and weather news company partnered to create a tailored forecasting and alerting system for Disney guests.

Now guests will know whether to pack extra sunscreen and won’t be caught in a rain shower without a poncho by looking at the Disney Weather Check app.

The app will show detailed forecasts at Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort, Aulani, a Disney Resort and Spa, Disney’s Vero Beach Resort and Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort.

“Together with Disney Experiences, AccuWeather is delivering the most precise, localized forecasts — proven more accurate than those from any other source — that help guests plan their day efficiently,” AccuWeather CEO Steven R. Smith said in a statement.

Smith added that the app will also provide “peace of mind that AccuWeather is continuously monitoring weather conditions throughout their visit, with the best and latest information to optimize their experience.”

The new app will include hourly forecasts for each resort, rather than guests having to rely on broad weather data for the city that they are in.

AccuWeather is also providing its “MinuteCast,” which tells guests when rain or snow will start and stop at their exact GPS location over the next four hours.

Guests will also be able to view AccuWeather’s “RealFeel Temperature” index, which is based on 14 factors, providing more precise data.

“This collaboration enables our guests and operational leadership to benefit from customized, accurate, consistent, and actionable weather insights across many Disney properties,” Greg Hale, Chief Safety Officer and V.P., Disney Worldwide Safety Assurance, said in a statement.

“By integrating AccuWeather’s information and expertise with Disney Weather Check, we are continuing our commitment to providing the best guest experience possible.”
