New sleeper train connecting Brussels, Amsterdam and Copenhagen to launch

A new sleeper train is set to launch between Belgium, the Netherlands and Sweden in spring 2028.

Railway company European Sleeper has announced it is expanding its overnight train network into Scandinavia with a new route connecting Brussels, Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Malmo.

The company said the service will significantly expand its network towards northern Europe, making overnight connections between major destinations.

Other destinations, such as London, Paris, Stockholm and Oslo, can be reached with one additional change along the route.

It is being developed in partnership with German railway operator RDC, with plans to offer departures from Brussels and Malmo from 7pm, arriving at the other end of the route at 10am the following morning.

Plans for which days of the week European Sleeper will run the route have yet to be announced.

The service is expected to offer the usual night train accommodation on European Sleeper, including seats, couchettes and sleeper compartments.

Deluxe sleeper options are also being considered for the route, including double beds and private en-suite bathrooms.

Prices have not yet been announced, but the one-way tickets for the European Sleeper night train from Paris to Berlin start from €79.99 (£68) per person in a shared Classic compartment.

The Dutch-Belgian train operator currently runs other night train services across Europe, connecting major cities along its routes, including Berlin, Prague and Amsterdam.

Its third route, a 17-and-a-half-hour journey connecting Brussels to Italy’s fashion hub Milan, is scheduled to launch on 9 September, connecting the Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg) with Switzerland and Northern Italy.

The company said preparations are also underway for a Brussels-Barcelona overnight connection due to launch in 2028.

Chris Engelsman, co-founder of European Sleeper, said: “Our network is growing quickly, and Scandinavia is a natural next step. Together with RDC, we can create a night train that directly connects the Benelux with Copenhagen and Malmo, bringing another part of Europe within a comfortable night’s journey.

“It also marks an important next step in our strong cooperation with RDC, which already supports our Paris and Milan services through the provision of night train rolling stock.”

European Sleeper currently runs two night train services between Brussels and Prague, and between Paris and Berlin.
