Google
Google has finally removed the paywall on one of its more interesting Labs experiments. Dreambeans, the AI app that builds you a personalized daily feed of stories, is now free to test for any Google Account holdern in the US (via 9to5Google).
How the Dreambeans AI app builds your daily feed
Google Labs / YouTube
Think of it as a highly personal version of Google Discover. With your permission, Dreambeans taps into Gmail, Google Photos, Calendar, Search history, and YouTube to figure out what you’re into, and here’s how each piece plays its part: Workspace supplies real-world context like receipts or an upcoming flight. Photos picks up on the people and places you care about. YouTube tracks your active hobbies. Search flags interests you’re just starting to develop.
Every morning, it stitches those data points into a fresh batch of story ideas, whether that’s a hike worth trying, a new restaurant, or an event nearby. Instead of stock photos, each story comes with custom artwork generated by Nano Banana image generator, often depicting you and people you know in an illustrated style.
Google Labs / YouTube
Dreambeans launched in June exclusively for Google AI Ultra subscribers before expanding to AI Pro, and it’s now finally open to everyone. Setup takes about a day to generate your first set of stories, and the app is available on Android and iOS.
More Google Labs experiments worth trying
Dreambeans is not the only interesting experiment coming out of Google Labs lately. If you run a small business, Pomelli can now build your entire brand identity from scratch, generating everything from your color palette to a full working website. And if music is more your thing, ProducerAI lets you describe a song idea and walk away with actual beats, album art, and even a music video to match.
In case you’re a student and want to try other tools like these for free, Google is also offering a free year of AI Pro through a new Gemini student hub, which is worth checking out before you commit to a subscription anywhere else.

AI is taking a bigger role in short dramas, and actors are paying the price
AI actors are moving from experiments to mainstream entertainment
The entertainment industry may be approaching a strange new reality: the actor you are watching might not be an actor at all.
AI-generated dramas and digital performers are moving from experimental technology into everyday entertainment, with production companies increasingly using artificial intelligence to create characters, scenes and entire short-form productions. The shift is happening quickly enough that some performers are already losing work - and, in some cases, being asked to help create the AI versions that replace them.
Proton found trackers inside most VPN apps downloaded in the US
Some of these VPN apps can also access your physical location and device data

When you install a VPN, you’re trusting another company with a large part of your internet traffic. Most people do this because they want more privacy, which makes Proton VPN’s latest findings pretty damning.
After examining more than 7,000 mobile VPN apps around the world, Proton says 85% of the VPNs in its US analysis contain trackers used for analytics, advertising, or profiling. Some of these apps can also access information such as your device ID, phone model, network type, mobile carrier, and even your physical location.
Google Health gets better workout logging and more reliable tracking in latest update
Missing maps, workout totals, and Health Connect problems have all been fixed in Google Health 5.07

Google Health 5.07 is rolling out with a number of changes to how the app records and displays your workout and health data. Trail and incline runs will now count toward your Running Distance totals, manually logged workouts can include more information, and Google has fixed an issue that could cause Health Connect to disconnect for some Android users.
The update is rolling out on Android and iOS starting today and should reach more devices over the next week. It follows version 5.05, which added two-way Apple Health syncing and Smart Health Links, and version 5.06, which gave users the option to remove the Health Coach’s lengthy guidance from the Today tab.
